A LAMB had a lucky escape after a walker on Ingleborough came across it while it was stuck in hole in the ground yesterday (Monday).

Luckily for the lamb the walker had strayed unintentionally from the path when she saw it stuck in the mud on her descent over Southerscales Fell.

She tried to pull it free herself but it was stuck too firmly so she called North Yorkshire Police at around 4.28pm.

As the duty controller of Cave Rescue Organisation was organising a small team to rescue the lamb, staff at the force control room stood the team down having established who the farmer was likely to be.

The farmer, Thomas Beresford went to rescue his sheep so no action was required of the CRO.

In a tweet, Mr Beresford said: "Sheep Rescue this afternoon thanks to a walker reporting the @what3words location to 101 and to @NYP_Craven for getting in touch via the Rural Watch to locate who owned the land and it was me."
