THIS picture is a fairly recent addition to the online Rowley Collection and features Skipton Pant Shop centre stage.
Who remembers buying their jeans from this shop, or did you have a favourite store elsewhere?
It was located, as the photograph shows, between Woolworths and Craven Farmers butchers, in Caroline Square.
Will this have been the days before Lycra where you had to shrink-fit your jeans yourself, usually by submerging yourself in the bath with then on and letting them dry on you?
Perhaps that practice had died out by then.
It was also commonplace to sew your own hems or turn the bottom up (several times if you were short). A bit different to day’s off-the-peg varieties. Picture Rowley Ellwood Collection
