WHO remembers when part of the former Rackhams and House of Fraser building was the Old George Hotel?
The picture was taken around the early 1970s.
It was a large hotel with car parking at the rear and Whitbread signs on the front wall.
According to the Rowley Collection website, a former landlord, believed to be George Bishop, during the late 1890s to the early 1900s was a crack shot with the 3rd Volunteer Battalion Duke of Wellington regiment.
There would be no nonsense from him on the premises.
Another reader said Tommy Chapman, a member of the Savona Dance Band, would play piano and sing on occasion.
