STRING quartet What the Pluck and Scottish trailblazers, Peatbog Fairies will be bringing their very different music to Settle Victoria Hall in August.

Described as ‘not your average string quartet, What the Pluck will be appearing outside in Miss Victoria’s Refreshment Gardens on Friday, August 6.

Drawing on years of experience across a multitude of genres, the quartet ‘breathes new life into everything they play’, says Victoria Hall.

Each performance they give is guaranteed to contain something for everyone, from Vivaldi to Harry Potter, Ed Sheeran to Guns ‘n’ Roses, audiences are promised to hear tunes they know in ways they’ve never heard them before.

The evening performance is outside, drinks are available from the bar, and people are welcome to bring a picnic.

On Saturday, August 7, ‘legendary Scottish trailblazers’ Peatbog Faeries make a return visit to the world’s oldest music hall.

A spokesperson said: “Drawing upon a dazzling myriad of influences from jigs and reels through Dance Music, Jazz, African, and more, Skye’s Peatbog Faeries bring the sound of Scotland fresh-faced and breathless to the new audiences around the world.

“Their mainly instrumental music allows the band to develop exciting themes and soundscapes, as well as locking into their trademark hypnotic ‘Celtic Dance’ sound that no-one can resist moving to.”

The band features frontman Peter Morrison on pipes and whistles, Ross Couper on fiddle and Tom Salter on guitar. Graeme Stafford is on keyboards, Innes Hutton on bass and Stuart Haikney on drums.

For something different, the hall’s gardens play host to a woodland family activity day with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust on Wednesday, August 11.

The day of nature stories and craft activities is part of the Together for Trees project - connecting communities with their local woodlands.

There will be story telling in the morning and afternoon and nature craft activities throughout the day.

Also on Wednesday afternoon, as part of the ‘relaxed family films series’ will be a showing of The Secret Garden. The 1993 adaptation of the classic novel, stars Kate Maberly and Maggie Smith.
