AN emotional farewell was made to the headteacher of Beamsley’s Boyle and Petyt Primary School who has finally retired after 25 years.
As well as her long career at Boyle and Petyt, Imogen Addy has taught at schools the length of Wharfedale, having also been head at Arncliffe School and for a while, stepping in as maternity cover, at Burnsall.
The well respected headteacher is now starting her retirement a year later than she planned.
John Sykes, chair of governors, said Mrs Addy had indicated her intention to retire in August, last year.
“The governing board is grateful to her for selflessly agreeing to continue in her role for a further 12 months to help steady the ship until we could get on top of the Covid situation.
“The school will be forever in her debt for what she has achieved in developing its learning, pastoral care and development of its physical resources. We wish her a deserved, long and happy retirement and we eagerly await news of her forthcoming adventures.”
Bathed in glorious sunshine, the pupils provided a surprise mini-concert for Mrs Addy and her husband, John, which included some bespoke song lyrics in tribute to her. She was also presented with a selection of gifts.
Her last day of term closed with a walk down to the Priory at Bolton Abbey followed by a school picnic on the riverbank.
