THE recent IPCC report by leading world climate scientists is frightening. It says that there is no doubt that human activity has pushed up global temperatures, the result of burning coal, oil and gas.

Global warming doesn't mean that we can 'look forward to a nice Mediterranean climate'. It means extreme weather conditions i.e the wildfires, flooding, drought, soaring temperatures, melting polar ice and rising sea levels, happening now.

Our body temperature is around 37C. When we are ill our temperature rises. 38C means we have a fever.

A temperature rise of 4C would see our organs start to fail. A similar scenario is happening to the earth. 1C doesn't sound much but the fever has started to rage.

Governments have done little so far, except come up with ' targets', meaningless without action. Polluting companies continue to make short term profit at the expense of our planet's future,

The COP26 Coalition is the UN 'Conference of the Parties' bringing the governments of the world together and it is happening in Glasgow in November.

Please join us. Lots of events happening in Skipton and surrounding areas and throughout the world to increase pressure on governments to act.

We can arrange talks in your schools/colleges/organisations.

Big Green Week takes place from September 18 to September 25.

At 9am on Friday, September 24, there will be a 'youth strike outside Skipton Town Hall.

From November 1 to November 26; COP26 talks in Glasgow. Demonstrations planned to demand action.

Saturday, November 6, a global day of action.
