A PLAN to construct a first-floor rear extension at a property in Low Bradley has been refused despite Craven District Council officers recommending approval.

The application at 10 Westview Close was opposed by Peter Richmond who lived next door at number eight.

He said the extension to create a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom would cause unacceptable loss of light to two rooms in his property.

The planning officer said he felt the work would not impinge on the amenity of the neighbour’s property and its design would not have an adverse effect on the conservation area.

Four objections to the plans had been received stating the extension would be modern, large, with bulk and massing; would be visually intrusive and would overlook the garden of the neighbour at number eight. Bradley’s Both Parish Council said the plans were not clear and did not address the neighbour’s concerns.

Councillor Andy Brown said he proposed refusal of the plans saying the ‘diminution of light was beyond what we would call acceptable’. His proposal was seconded by Councillor Brian Shuttleworth.

Councillor Richard Pringle said he was abstaining from the vote because he had not seen the property and felt he could not comment.

Members voted to refuse the plans and asked the planning officer to note the reasons were because of loss of light and amenity to the adjacent property.
