THE solution to many of Horton-in-Ribblesdale residents problems lies on their own doorstep (Villagers are under siege from visitors, Craven Herald, September 16). The Settle to Carlisle Railway runs right through the parish and conveniently, there is a station there too.
Walkers and Three Peak Challenge organisers can stay/park further down the line in say Settle or Skipton. Then take the morning train to Horton that gives them up to 14 hours to complete the walk before catching the last train home. There are up to nine trains a day in each direction – there is plenty of choice.
Trains are much more environmentally friendly. They are very comfortable and someone else does the driving. They do not park on the pavement or obstruct emergency vehicles.
Equally, who needs Horton? Go a stop up the line and start/finish at Ribblehead, on the Tree Peaks Trail, where suitable refreshment opportunities are also available.
