WHARFEDALE Rugby Club has put out a call for girls and young women, from 11 to 18 years old, to join its ranks.
The Threshfield based club already has girls’ under-13 and under-15 teams, and now also has an under-18s team
After the summer break, the girls returned to training at the start of the month, and are looking forward to games against other local girls’ teams including from North Ribblesdale, Ripon, Burnley, Kirkby Lonsdale, Wensleydale and Baildon Rugby Clubs.
Girls team manager, Stuart Willis, said: “Under the expert coaching of youth rugby development officer, Hedley Verity, the players have become a close-knit, supportive group and are keen to boost their numbers to make three competitive teams that can play and enjoy rugby together. “
Training sessions take place on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm at Wharfedale’s ground in Threshfield, while matches are usually held on Sundays.
Stuart added: “All are welcome, no experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in and have a go.
Players need to wear sports clothes - not hoodies - and rugby or football boots; a gum shield is also required.”
