VOLUNTEERS are needed to help clear plastic tree guards from a private woodland near Long Preston.

Victoria Benn, of environmental charity, Friends of the Dales, said: “This is the third tree tube collection we’ve run in the last two years and we’ve supported another run by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. Removing tree guards is very rewarding as its only when you are up close and involved do you see the damage the plastic creates when left unmanaged.”

The charity is keen to work with landowners and partners to help rid the Dales of redundant tree guards, which if left uncollected once a tree is thriving, breakdown into micro plastics polluting the land and waterways.

The tree guard collection event will run between 10am and 3pm on October 7 and all necessary equipment will be provided on the day. To volunteer email victoria.benn@friendsofthedales.org.uk or visit www.friendsofthedales.org.uk
