A SHORT history of Wharfedale's new opponents. The rugby section of the Bournville Athletic Club was established on 17th August 1909, when 22 members showed a strong interest in taking up the game. So it was that workers from Cadburys in Bournville village founded BOURNVILLE RFC, donning the chocolate colours.

After 100 years of rugby at Rowheath a major change to the Club’s aspirations was the move to the Edgbaston Campus of The University of Birmingham, known as Bournbrook, with the associated social facilities at the Munrow Sports Centre. The club has recently moved to their brand new facility at Avery Fields.

Bournville, the top Junior Club in the region, has ascended from Level 10 to currently play in National 2 North at level 4.

Bourneville have made a very solid start to this campaign. They started with a good away win at Huddersfield followed by a 7 try win against Harrogate. Last week they lost in a 13 try thriller at Rotherham when Rotherham slotted a penalty with the last kick of the game.

Let us hope that Dale continue to get stronger and play the same brand of rugby we saw for 60 minutes at the Avenue last week.
