A MAN has been jailed for a string of thefts from shops across the Keighley district.

James John Richardson, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates Court to 27 offences – committed on various dates between August 8 and September 10.

Premises targeted in Keighley included B&M, Poundland, Broomhill Co-op, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, The Fragrance Shop, Bodycare, Asda and The Orchard.

Offences were also committed at Co-op stores in Haworth, Silsden and Steeton.

The most single thefts – five – occurred at the Co-op outlet in Broomhill Avenue, Keighley.

Taking into account all the offences, items stolen ranged from meat, cheeses, steaks, chocolate and spirits to perfume and aftershave.

The total value of the goods taken exceeded £2,600.

Richardson was jailed for a total of 52 weeks and was ordered to pay a £156 victim surcharge.

Magistrates said the defendant’s guilty pleas had been taken into account when imposing the sentence.
