BARNOLDSWICK Town suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Heaton Stannington in the Buildbase FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round on Saturday.

Town won a thriller in the previous round, beating AFC Blackpool 9-8 on penalties after drawing 3-3 over the 90 minutes.

And the away side overcame Newcastle in the first round.

Going into the fixture, Town had come off the back of an impressive victory in midweek after winning convincingly (3-0) at Irlam.

And they started well, building the pressure from the start and they were rewarded for their efforts.

On minute 38, Paul Turner put a delightful pass through to Gareth Hill, who slipped his hot under the keeper into the bottom left corner.

But Heaton came back towards the latter stages of the match and managed to score two in the last 15 minutes. Hall scored the leveller from a corner on minute 79, before Burn struck a 40-yard screamer on minute 90+3.
