THIS Sunday, October 10 2021, the Skipton Roses Women’s Rugby Team will make history by playing their first ever 15-a-side game at Sandylands.

Their opponents on the day will be Penrith RUFC Panthers. The fact both teams are taking to the field is testament to the hard work and commitment of their respective coaches and all the women who have given rugby a try, many for the first time.

Together both clubs have over 60 players registered. What is more astonishing is that these levels of numbers were achieve during the Covid-19 pandemic. Both clubs have been able to play some rugby since grassroots rugby was permitted with the Roses played in the Skiptens and Ilkley 7s in August and the Panthers have played two games against established women’s teams. Head coaches Brian Brocksom (Roses) and Craig Tyson (Panthers) said “We are so looking forward to this Sunday, it will be a cracking afternoon of rugby and our women can’t wait to pull on their club shirts and take to the field. On this day friendships will be made which will last a life time”

The clubhouse will be open and looking forward to welcoming old and new supporters to cheer the women on. Kick off is at 2pm.
