I AM a practicing accountant and I am concerned that Quarterly Reporting under Making Tax Digital (MTD) will have a detrimental impact on all small businesses which do not have the financial resources to meet this requirement.
To reduce the disruption caused, I urge the Government to raise the turnover threshold for exemption from £10,000 to £85,000 (which is the VAT registration threshold).
This simple change would not only assist the smallest of established businesses, but also encourage new business start-ups by relieving them of the burden of having to prepare quarterly accounts from the date that they start trading.
I understand that secondary legislation on MTD is going before parliament later on this year and so this is an ideal opportunity to put forward the amendment.
