A CROSS border meeting has taken place between North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire councillors and police to look at road safety issues in Sutton Lane, between Sutton and Eastburn.
Sutton Parish Council chairman Cllr Stephen Morrell, also a Craven District Councillor, called a meeting to discuss ways to make the lane ‘safer’ and which began with a one minute’s silence in remembrance of George Lewis, 9, who died after being hit by a vehicle in Sutton Lane last month
Cllr Morrell said he had been calling for safety measures along the road for many years.
Councillors, officers and members of the police from both sides of the border entered into lengthy discussion about historic difficulties with making progress on road safety on this lane.
Cllr Morrell said: “Regardless of those issues, all those in attendance committed to working in partnership to make a difference, and to look at a number of proposals for improving road safety on Sutton Lane. The group looked at both long term goals and also a number of short term proposals. The group will be meeting again in approximately four weeks time to report on progress.”
Representatives attended from Craven District Council, Bradford Council, Sutton, Steeton with Eastburn and Glusburn parish and ward councillors, North Yorkshire County Council councillor, Highways traffic engineer, North Yorkshire Police, Skipton police.
