THIS is an old postcard issued by Fred Manby & Bro showing the iron foundry, in Lower Union Street, and shop on the high street. There is also a picture of rows of fireplaces ready for sale.
The foundry had a yard and wharf on the canal.
Frederick Manby, descendant of Fred said the foundry made domestic and agricultural products including Yorkshire oven ranges, washing machines, chain pumps, drain covers and coal-hole doors for deliveries. Hea dded: “Some of these can still be seen in back streets. The cricket pitch roller at Bradley had the foundry name on the handles. Probably long gone?”
