RECENT flooding which caused havoc along Sowarth Industrial Estate, in Settle, is to be addressed 'as soon as possible' according to the county council.

Photographs taken after heavy rain a week ago show water failing to drain away and encroaching into business premises.

Joshua Whitaker, of Ribblesdale Jaguar Land Rover Service Centre, in Sowarth Industrial Estate said: "This has been going on for many years but this year has been terrible when our business flooded in May. We just missed being flooded again this month."

Mr Whitaker said businesses had been asking North Yorkshire County Council for years to address the issue and look at the drains but said they were 'dragging their heels'.

James Malcolm, Highways area manager for North Yorkshire County Council, said: “We are aware of flooding concerns on Station Road and Sowarth Industrial Estate and United Utilities have been investigating.

"An order has been raised with NY Highways for gullies to be investigated and cleaned which will be carried out as soon as possible.”
