SO Skipton's 'yobbish' deputy mayor Cllr Darren Shaw is not going to resign for his appalling behaviour at the town's Moorview Social Club as reported on the front page of the Craven Herald of Thursday, October 7.
How can anyone take Skipton Town Council seriously as long as he remains one of its representatives and in line to become the town's first citizen as mayor?
It is reported that in his apology to the club he wrote 'it takes a big man to accept his mistakes and to apologise'. I suggest that a true big man would have immediately tendered his resignation for the good of the town council and Skipton. But in this day and age his refusal to resign if par for the course for elected representatives at local and central government level and in industry at large.
The days of persons of honour are sadly long gone.
I have contacted Craven District Council to make a formal complaint to its monitoring officer.
