I sent the following letter to Barclays Bank Skipton. I thought that your readers would be interested.

I drove into Skipton on Friday, October 15 in order to obtain some cash from Barclays Bank. After parking with some difficulty I went to the bank at 10.45am to find that it was now closed on a Friday (which is the busiest day in Skipton).

Like three other people I tried to obtain money from the ATM but this had run out of cash. There are two other banks on the High Street - only one of these had any cash in the ATM.

Barclays has closed three local branches in the last few years and now the Skipton branch is only open seventeen and a half hours per week. Three of the websites show the opening times to be 9.30am to 4.30pm on five days and 9.30am to 2pm on Saturday. Only one site showed the current opening times. Now that we are trying to get back to some form of normality after Covid surely the bank could offer a better service.

If they have to close one day a week why not Tuesday which is one of the quieter days in the town? Also they should make sure that there is cash in the ATM at 10.45 on a Friday morning.

Editor's note: A spokesman for Barclays Bank said the Skipton branch closed on Fridays in October 2020 and at that time Friday was regarded a quiet day because of the restrictions at the time. They added that the branch opens on Saturday mornings between 9.30am to 1.30pm.
