PLANS to convert a stone built barn in open countryside on the outskirts of Cowling into five, three bedroom homes have been lodged with Craven District Council.

The application for Warley Wise Farm includes the building of a garage to serve the existing, currently unoccupied farmhouse, and also improvements to access to the road.

In submissions to the council, agents for the applicants, say the barn includes ‘two imposing arched cart entrances’.

The farmhouse is dated 1875 and it is believed the barns are older. There is also a later, modern lean- to extension.

Each of the five new homes would include a garden at the front, off road parking and bin storage at the back - all within the existing curtilage of the barn and outbuildings.

It is planned to improve access to the site, currently set at a tight angle to Warley Wise Lane, by repositioning it.

The submission concludes: “The proposed conversion of the barns at Warley Wise Farm will ensure that this attractive run of barns will be improved and retained, contribute to the character and appearance of open countryside.

“The proposed development complies with the aims and objectives of the Craven Local Plan and the National Planning Policy Framework and Craven District Council is respectfully requested to grant planning permission for the development. “
