THREE friends have raised over £400 for the Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice by hosting a knitted toy tombola at Glusburn Institute Community and Arts Centre.

Cross Hills resident Nora Watson handcrafted over 150 colourful knitted characters which she and her friends, Caroline Furzeland and Jean Sharp, raffled on Sunday November 21.

Nora said, “My brother, Jean's husband, was supported by Sue Ryder during lockdown before he passed away, and Caroline's husband was also cared for at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. Supporting the hospice with a knitted toy tombola was a nice way to help them and the stall proved very popular.

Andrew Wood, community fundraising manager at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, said: “A huge thank you to Nora, Caroline and Jean for organising this wonderful knitted tombola to raise much-needed funds for our hospice."

The hospice relies on the generous support of local individuals and groups so it can continue giving its expert and compassionate care. If you are interested in joining a new volunteer fundraising group covering Cross Hills, Glusburn and Sutton, the hospice’s fundraising team is holding an informal meeting at the Dog and Gun Inn in Glusburn on Monday December 6 at 7pm.
