AROUND 20 members of the Craven and Upper Wharfedale Refugee Support Groups responded to the nationwide call for candle-lit vigils to remember the 27 asylum seekers who drowned in the the Channel on November 24. They gathered at 4pm on Saturday November 28 in the square in Grassington.
They shared their sorrow for those who died on the very last leg of their perilous journey through Europe to dreams of safety in England from war and persecution in their own country. They expressed their sorrow too for the grieving families left behind and anger that the government still fails to provide a safe and legal way for asylum seekers to travel here.
