PLANS by Yorkshire Water to build a new treated water storage tank off Park Hill, Barnoldswick, are being recommended for conditional approval.

The scheme will include the demolition of the existing water storage tank, and the construction of a temporary track while building is taking place. Also applied for is the temporary widening of the junction between Manchester Road and Letcliffe Lane.

The scheme will be discussed by the West Craven area committee of Pendle Council at The Rainhall Centre, Barnoldswick on January 4 when councillors will be advised to delegate the granting of consent to its planning manager subject to the receipt of 'amended plans providing satisfactory pedestrian separation from site traffic and providing clarification on levels.'

The site of the existing reservoir is within the settlement of Barnoldswick, while the site of the proposed storage tank and associated works are in open countryside.

A report to committee states that some residents have raised concerns about the impact on adjacent properties, surface water drainage and spread of the invasive plant, Japanese Knotweed. Some also thought the water tank should be sited further away from Park Avenue, and that the existing site of the tank could be redeveloped for housing.
