FRIENDS and supporters of Settle Swimming Pool led by chair of the trustees Pat Taylor have helped plant several fruit trees.

The trees have been planted on land owned by Craven District Council by Ribble Terrace in Settle to replace trees that had to be removed to make way for the around £800,000 redevelopment work now taking place at the pool, on the opposite side of the River Ribble.

The six trees, included apples, and appropriately enough as the planting took place at Christmas time – two pear trees.

The choice of trees and location was made in consultation with Settle-based environmental groups and Craven District Council.

Although the pool is now closed as a result of damage to the roof caused by Storm Arwen, the new build, which will include new changing rooms an enhanced entrance area, with catering facilities, and a multi-use dry area, is on track to be completed by the summer.
