'PLATINUM', 'Ings' and 'Wray' have been put forward by Skipton town councillors as possible alternative names for a road in the new Wyvern Park development.

One of the builders of the residential part of the edge of town development, currently under construction, have come up with 'Sapphire Court' as the name for a 19 home street, but town councillors said at a meeting last week it had no local connection that they were aware of.

Cllr Claire Nash suggested 'Platinum' in recognition of this year's Queen's platinum 70 years jubilee, while 'Wray' and 'Ings' both had associations with flood meadows.

"I just thought Sapphire Court had no local connection. The tradition is names have some bearing on the locality; this one seems to have been plucked out of nowhere," she told the planning committee.

In a letter to the town council, Craven District Council's street naming and numbering department, said the application for the road, to the North West of the Wyvern Way roundabout, had been received by RN Wooler and Co.

Once the application has been approved Craven Council will update the Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) and the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) which then becomes available for all statutory undertakers, emergency services, credit agencies, satellite navigation system suppliers and many private companies.
