SKIPTON Library will be taking part in the national commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day later this month.
The High Street library will join other North Yorkshire libraries, and the Supermobile library, to join the annual commemoration on Thursday, January 27.
Each year the UK observes Holocaust Memorial Day to remember those who suffered in the Holocaust under Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur. January 27 1945 marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
This year’s theme is “One Day” which encourages people to learn about the past in the hope that there will come a day with no genocide.
A remembrance tree will be on display in Skipton library where visitors can write down commemorative messages and add it to the tree.
From January 24 to 31, posters, books and educational material will be displayed on the travelling Supermobile library as well as in participating libraries.
