THE Met Office has issued a warning for strong winds as the first of two storms are due to sweep across North Yorkshire over the next couple of days.

A yellow warning of strong wind begins at around 3pm today for North Yorkshire, turning amber at around 4pm which is a warning of potentially destructive wind.

The strong winds from Storm Dudley are due to continue to the early hours of Thursday. Exposed areas will be the worst affected, particularly for drivers. There may also be damage to buildings and a risk of falling trees and power cuts.

Winds will ease on Thursday for the Craven area. A second named storm, Storm Eunice, arrives at around midnight on Thursday affecting parts of North Yorkshire, continuing to around 9pm on Friday.

Both storms are anticipated to cause widespread disruption to travel with heavy rain in places and the threat of wintry showers for Skipton and district on Friday night.

Only travel if necessary during the storms.
