AN exhibition of work by Settle-based artist Celia King opens at The Folly, Settle, on Saturday, March 5.
Born in Cornwall, Celia has lived in Settle all her adult life and has taught art at both Settle College and at Giggleswick School.With the sea a central feature of her work, she uses collage and multimedia to express the boldness or intimacy of the coast, from the power of water to the treasures of the tide-lines.
Recently, she has been inspired by Anglesey’s ever-changing seascapes and beaches, showing a wide variety of bold and intimate imagery. She has used a range of materials and methods to express the energy of the sea and the intimacy of its associated flora and fauna.
During lockdown, Celia has been fascinated by the changing seasons in the Dales and around the River Ribble. It’s ponds, waterfalls, flora and fauna inspire her.
The exhibition will open with a private viewing for friends and family of Celia and supporters and volunteers of The Folly on Friday evening before the exhibition opens to the public. It will run until June 18, with selected artworks for sale.
Caitlin Greenwood, Heritage Development Officer at The Folly said: “It’s so brilliant to be exhibiting art again at The Folly, especially art celebrating the landscape we’ve all come to know so intimately over the lock-downs of the last couple years.”
