PLANNING permission for works to resurface and extend the existing track serving agricultural land and works to the field access points on land east of Oughtershaw Hall, Oughtershaw, Buckden, has been refused.

A report from the planning office of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority following determination on February 21 read: "In the opinion of the Local Planning Authority, the proposed track and associated retaining walls would result in an unsightly scar across the landscape causing substantial visual harm to this remote, unspoilt part of the National Park.

"The track would be highly visible from public vantage points, close to the Oughtershaw road and would result in a high degree of landscape harm.

"Furthermore insufficient information has been submitted to demonstrate the need for the track."
