A SUM of £6,700 and still counting! That was the magnificent amount realised as a result of last Sunday's charity football match between local rivals Bradford City Veterans and Burnley Vintage Clarets, at Silsden.

All proceeds being in support of former City legend Allan Gilliver and his chosen cause, Pathways, supporting those affected by young onset dementia.

Age-wise, many of the players on both sides were not far short of claiming for a free bus pass. But they turned on a splendid show which was much appreciated by a large appreciative crowd of whom many were harbouring loyalties for both teams, although in good spirit, and the end scoreline was of little consequence.

However, just for the record, City did just manage to nick the verdict by two goals to one after Burnley had a potentially late equaliser disallowed for a foot up to the keeper. And another late Burnley assault saw them rattle the crossbar with such venom that the bar might still be shaking yet.

The organisers convey sincere thanks to all who supported the event which, besides having raised such an impressive amount, proved to be a splendid sporting and public relations occasion.
