I would like to add a few facts to Bruce McLeod's rather histrionic missive of Saudi Arabia's 'invasion' of Yemen (letters April 14). Far from invading the country, Saudi is part of a UN sanctioned international contingent supporting the government of Yemen. These include Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Sudan and United Arab Emirates, expanded in 2018 to include Eritrea and Pakistan.

The situation is dire and fast becoming a proxy war with the Houthi rebels being sponsored by Iran. This is then compounded by a mix of other Islamic terrorist groups such as Isis and Hezbollah in the area.

After the fiasco in Iraq, Western powers are wise to keep out of it.
