MORE than 70 works by former keeper of the Royal Academy, the late Norman Adams, who lived in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, are to go on show.

Thousands of art lovers from across the country are expected to visit the exhibition, 'the artist in his environment', which will take place from Monday, May 9 at The Storey in Lancaster.

Norman Adams moved to Horton in 1956 where he painted in his studio until he died in 2005. The exhibition will include works ranging from watercolour landscapes to large oil paintings and will feature places including the Yorkshire Dales, Scotland and southern France.

His son, Ben Adams, said: “Works in this exhibition show how Norman’s work changed to reflect different landscapes, world events and the spirit of his time. His landscapes reflect the atmosphere - and the weather - as much as they show a landscape. His larger works often reflect world events.”

Mary Gavagan, curator of online gallery Gavagan Art, said: “Norman Adams is an amazing colourist and visionary - and I feel it’s important to bring his art to a wide audience”.

The exhibition at The Storey, Lancaster, runs from May 9 to May 25 and is open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 5pm with a 7pm late opening on Thursday.
