A DEVELOPER behind refused plans to build 19 bungalows in Barnoldswick for the over 55s has appealed for the decision to be overturned.

Applethwaite's scheme to build on land off Brogden Lane was refused by Pendle Council in June, last year. The application, including landscaping, car parking and access off Brogden Lane, was refused on the single ground of highways safety.

The council said the road network leading to the proposed site was 'not adequate to safely facilitate the increase in traffic that would be generated by the development.'

The company later submitted revised plans for the scheme, which were largely identical, but sought to address highways concerns.

That application was due to go before the West Craven Committee of the council in March, with a recommendation for approval. It was deferred from one meeting but the application was withdrawn before councillors were able to discuss it.

Applethwaite has now appealed to the Planning Inspectorate to overturn the decision of Pendle Council.

The appeal into the original application will be decided by the inspectorate following written representations.
