TEEN ace Qanita Inayat stole the headlines with a devastating all-round display which helped her side romp to a seven-wicket win over Menston, in a game that saw Crossflatts make their debut in women’s senior cricket.

On a sun-drenched afternoon at the Fox Ground, Menston skipper Amelia Fowler won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket that looked excellent to bat on for this West Yorkshire Women & Girls Cricket League Division One clash.

But the away side started well from the off and took wickets at regular intervals to keep the home side in check.

Menston finished their allotted 30 overs on 126-8 with Louisa Hutchinson (4-12), Kara Price (1-16), skipper Charlotte Boulton (1-13) and 15-year-old Inayat (1-19) among the wickets, backed up by some solid fielding and excellent wicket-keeping from the flawless Hollie Kirtley.

The home side felt confident going into the second half with runs on the board against a side making their senior cricketing debut. But their hopes were quickly diminished with Crossflatts openers Inayat and Freya Craddock put on an excellent 89 for the first wicket.

This was before Inayat was caught on the boundary after stroking her way to 58 off only 45 balls. Her knock included two sixes and eight fours - and each boundary brought much delight to the large gathering of away supporters.

Craddock fell shortly afterwards for a well-made 12, as did Jenni Alsop (1) but any chances of a Menston comeback were stubbed out impressively by Sarah Worger (10no) and Kara Price (12no) as Flatts ran out winners by seven wickets with twelve overs to spare.

It was a very good all-round performance from the away side but the efforts of all-rounder Qanita Inayat stood out. The talented seam bowler/opening batter is definitely one to keep an eye on throughout this season.

Crossflatts will be hoping to make it two wins out of two when they travel to St Chad's Broomfield Cricket Club for a 12pm start on The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday of Friday, June 3.
