THE VICAR of St Andrew's Church, Gargrave, has applied to carry out work on three trees in the grounds of the church.

The Rev Andrew Steer has applied to Craven District Council to clear a large amount of dead wood in a sycamore to the west of the church. It is proposed that one other sycamore and an ash be removed entirely, and replaced with new ones. All are covered by tree preservation orders.

In a supporting statement, Tree Tops Forestry recommends the removal of the mature sycamore next to the church lych gate because of damage caused by a falling chestnut tree.

The ash, in the conservation garden at the back of the church is recommended for removal because it has advanced ash die back disease. Both trees will be replaced with new ones.
