A FEMALE caver attending an organised winch meeting at Gaping Gill, near Clapham, on Saturday, was taken to hospital with an appendicitis.
She was transported to the road head by members of the Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO), which received a call at 8.40am, to a waiting road ambulance to be taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for Clapham based CRO said: "Members were despatched by Land Rover and Honda Pioneer, at the same time as the availability of an air ambulance was queried.
"No helicopter was available immediately and team members kept going forward. The patient and a companion were collected in the Pioneer, brought down to the road-head and transferred to the road ambulance for their assessment.
"The following day, a message was received from a grateful patient, saying that her appendix had been removed successfully."
