A STELLAR line up at the first ever Great Yorkshire Dales Proms in Skipton this summer includes soprano Lesley Garrett and ‘Go-Compare Man’, tenor, Wynne Evans.

Also performing will be West End singer and actress Sophie Evans, a host of outstanding young talent from the Royal Northern College of Music, and the 60 piece Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra conducted by Skipton’s Ben Crick.

The proms event, a first for Skipton, will take place in Aireville Park on Friday, July 22, ahead of the Gateways Festival, on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24.

In true ‘Proms’ style, the evening will finish off with a fireworks finale and include all the proms anthems such as Rule Britannia, Pomp and Circumstance No 1 and Jerusalem.

Eddie Elliott-Smith, festival director said “We cannot wait for everyone to see the magnitude of this brand new event that we are bringing to Skipton for the very first time.

“It cannot be emphasised enough that this is a stand-out cast of operatic and classical performers that will bring an incredible night of entertainment right to the very heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

“We hope that the public realise what we know already, they will be very hard pressed to find not only anything like this anywhere else, but equally not to regret missing something so special and what we think will be an ‘I was there’ moment for years to come.”

He added: “Our major focus with a Proms style event was to ensure that we bring something of increasing value and completely different to everything amazing that Skipton already has to offer.

“We have a real sense of optimism that the incredible setting of Aireville Park will be alive with flags, singing and smiling faces come July 22. The Great Yorkshire Dales Proms should take people’s breath away, which in summary was how we set out on delivering this experience and how we want people to talk about The Great Yorkshire Dales Proms for many years to come”.

Headlining at the Gateways Festival are Jake Bugg, The Charlatans, The Subways and The Sherlocks.
