THE Beat of My Art, an exhibition by award winning artist Peter Wilkin, takes place at Mill Bridge Gallery, Skipton, from Thursday, June 16 to July 9.

Peter, a member of Craven Arts, will be showing a mixture of new and old works inspired by the music of Kate Bush and Frank Sinatra, the poetry of Silvia Plath, and the art of Picasso and Hilma af Klint.

A former psychotherapist, Peter believes that any therapeutic journey involves a search for the hidden self: a true representation of oneself that lies buried beneath protective defence mechanisms.

It is this concept, he says, that drives his art as he deconstructs an original photographic image to create a final piece.

In 2019, he won first prize in the Mobile Essay Awards - part of the Mobile Photography Awards - with six prints together with text based on the life and songs of Kurt Cobain. The work will be included in the Skipton exhibition.

The Beat of my Art will run from June 16 to July 9. Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 11am to 4pm, or by appointment 07702 309144.
