LANGCLIFFE Singers return to Settle Victoria Hall on Saturday, July 9 for the choir’s summer concert.

In what promises to be a great evening with something for everyone, the choir will sing ‘songs from the shows’ as well as ‘opera choruses’.

Darren Everhart, music director, has chosen a selection of music for the event spanning several centuries, aimed at allowing the choir to show off its versatility and talents.

The programme includes medleys from Les Miserables and West Side Story together with songs from Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim, Wicked by Stephen Schwartz, and Carousel by Rogers and Hammerstein. It also includes Mamma Mia by Catherine Johnson based on the Abba songs written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.

The operatic section will include the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Verdi’s opera Nabucco, the stirring Grand March from Aida, also by Verdi and the tranquil Humming Chorus from Madame Butterfly by Puccini. The choir will be accompanied by Brian Heaton.

There will also be opportunities for audience participation in some of the best-loved numbers, under the encouraging guidance of the music director.

A spokesperson for the choir said: “Victoria Hall is a wonderful venue with a fabulous atmosphere, and the gardens will be open on the evening of the concert, providing a magical place to relax before the concert and during the interval.”

Langcliffe Singers have a long and splendid history. The choir’s previous concerts this season have included Handel’s Messiah, Coleridge Taylor’s Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast, and Rutter’s Feel the Spirit. Both concerts attracted large and enthusiastic audiences and extremely positive reviews.

Tickets for the summer concert at 7.30pm on July 9 are £12 and are available from: www.settlevictoriahall.org.uk; or at its box office; www.langcliffesingers.org.uk; and at the upstairs cafe in Car and Kitchen, Settle.
