CRAVEN Cattle Mart’s (CCM) fortnightly dairy show and sale in Skipton saw a good, cross section of 23 animals forward this week.

Peter Waring, of PJ Waring and Sons, secured both champion and reserve spots with his two very correct heifers.

It was his third championship in the recent couple of months.

The champion, Winton Secretariat Roxy II, calved on May 23 and was giving 31kg. Bred from 11 generations of the famous Roxy family, she topped the sale at £2,500, selling to M. Goodall of Tong, who added two more to his purchases on the day, with the milking heifers averaging £2,316.66.

Cows in milk included a youthful, fresh second calver from J Dibb, which placed first in the newly calven cows class, followed by a fresh fourth calver from BH Wilson in second place, both of which are ongoing dispersals with the cows in milk topping at £1,650 and averaging £1,412.50.

Eight in calf heifers were put forward; five consigned by Wilson’s and three from Sally Wellock.

All met with some competitive bidding, peaking at £1,880 for a heifer by Gillette Caviar, with the hammer falling to P and RM Sutcliffe of Queensbury.

Six bulling heifers from JT Moran completed the line-up and again solid trade saw them average £916.67.

All six were secured by RG Johnson of Felliscliffe.
