A 70 YEAR old was found high up on Whernside as he attempted the Yorkshire Three Peaks on a day when temperatures hit 35C.
Members of the Cave Rescue Organisation started searching for the man after his companions were unable to contact him.
He had set off from Chapel-le-dale at 6.30am on Tuesday, July 19 on the Three Peaks route starting with Ingleborough before heading onto Penyghent and Whernside.
Weather for the area on the day was described as 'extremely hot' and predicted to reach 35C.
He was last seen at 10.30am by his companions at the old school in Horton-in-Ribblesdale where he had stopped to rest and eat.
A spokesperson for the Clapham based CRO said: "His companions’ attempts to contact him by mobile phone during the day had been unsuccessful.
"When the cut-off time for his return to his lodgings passed, the walker’s companions raised the alarm and CRO were called upon to look for him. "
Members split into five search teams to check approaches and descents of Penyghent and Whernside.
The spokesperson added:"We located him, safe and well, at 10.15pm high up on Whernside. Members accompanied him back down to his lodgings."
