A MOUNTAIN biker who broke his collar bone when he fell at Weets Top, Malham, yesterday (Sunday) has thanked the fell rescue volunteers who got him safely to a waiting ambulance.
Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue was called by the ambulance service to help the 70 year old biker who had fallen on a popular route between Bordley and Weets Top, injuring himself.
A spokesperson for the Grassington based UWFRA said: "It was quite a difficult location to reach but the team managed to get relatively close thanks to some expert 4x4 driving in the team Land Rover.
"Suspecting a fractured collar bone the team carefully placed the injured arm in to a sling and walked the patient down to the waiting ambulance.
"We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he is out enjoying the Dale again very soon."
The mountain biker responded on the team's Facebook page, after getting home from Airedale Hospital: " Many, many thanks to the number who turned out, and the fairly comfortable ride back to meet the ambulance. As we all thought it is a broken collar bone, but thankfully that's all."
