A STATIC cycle challenge held in Barnoldswick at the weekend has raised around £3,000 for Pendleside Hospice and other local charities.

Organised by Barnoldswick and Earby Rotary Club and held in the town square, static bikes were supplied by the town's Hope Engineering, which also donated the first prize. Other prizes were donated by Craven Leisure.

The winning team came from Skipton Cycling Club whose three riders clocked up a nominal distance of 24.31 miles in the allotted one hour time. The same club also provided the second winning team clocking up 23.76 miles. Third was Barnoldswick Clarion Cycling Club with 23.42 miles. All competitors received medals, and there were also prizes for raffle winners.

At the end of the cycling, watched by a good crowd of spectators and shoppers, Rotary president Eric Firth thanked sponsors and donors for their support, and hospice ambassador Keith Jackson added his thanks to the rotary club and fund-raisers and hoped that next year’s event would be even better.
