THE Duchess of Devonshire was a welcome visitor to the Boyle and Petyt Primary School in Beamsley, near Bolton Abbey.

The duchess, who together with her husband, the Duke of Devonshire, manage the Bolton Abbey and Chatsworth estates, awarded the prizes at the school's recent harvest show.

The show, organised by the parents' association, The Friends of Beamsley, was a huge success, with a variety of stalls, tombola and a pet show, raising vital funds for the school.

A spokesperson for Boyle and Petyt School said: "Children and their families baked, grew and created produce, and other entries to the various categories of the competitions.

"There were also stalls, a tombola, a raffle, a bouncy castle and a pet show - all of which attracted lots of custom. A wonderful day was had by all."
