SKIPTON man Chris Metcalfe completed the London Marathon on Sunday, October 2, in 4:53 and boosted his fundraising for Synovial Scarcoma to £13,900.

Father-of-four, Chris, is no stranger to extreme sport and in July this year climbed Kilimanjaro in memory of his younger brother and best friend, Rob, 32, who died in February from the rare and aggressive form of cancer.

He was diagnosed in 2018 with the condition that develops in the bone and soft tissue.

The brothers grew up in Skipton and attended Parish Church School and Upper Wharfedale School.

Following his impressive trek Chris’ wife, Tara said: “We’re so proud of Chris. He has been training for this for a long time and we’re so pleased he made it to the top. This will be a fabulous memory not only for Chris, but all of us including Rob’s five-year-old son Caleb.”

She too helped raise money by walking100 miles throughout April for Sarcoma UK as part of the Step in to Spring fundraising event and raised a further £275.

For Chris the Kilimanjaro trek helped with stamina training necessary for his 26.2-mile run around the capital which he got round in an impressive time.

The run has helped boost his fundraising which he set initially at £8,000 but soon surpassed his goal.
