FORMER pupils and members of staff of Earby's Alder Hill School turned up for the launch of a new book.

The History of Alder Hill School, written by Stephanie Carter and published by the Earby and District Local History Society, was unveiled to an appreciate audience of more than 40 people at Earby Community Centre.

Stephanie talked about the history of the school, which closed in 1961 and its pupils transferred to Barnoldswick Modern School, while former pupil Robin Brown spoke of his days at the school.

He talked about how he built a bureau, still used today, and how he had developed a love of woodwork.

Refreshments were served and there were old photographs of the school and classes on display, many of which are included in Stephanie's book.

Copies of the book are available to buy via the Earby and District Local History Society Facebook page, along with many other books on the history of the area.
