A SURVEY of all the defibrillators in Skipton town centre is to take place as a 'matter of urgency' after one was found with a flat battery.

The survey of the defibrillators, who was responsible for them and whether they are fully charged, should take place as soon as possible after an incident where one had been needed but was inoperable, heard a meeting of Skipton Town Council.

Councillors at the public services committee were told by deputy clerk Jenny Dean that there had been a couple of incidents recently when the potentially life-saving equipment had been needed and that the one in the High Street car park had been discovered with a flat battery.

She told the meeting of the public services committee that following an investigation, a report would come back to a future meeting.

Cllr Peter Madeley said the work should be carried out as a matter of urgency and hopefully before Christmas.

"What is the point of a defibrillator with a flat battery? There has to be a way of making sure they are working and fit for the public to use," he said.

Cllr Claire Nash said it would be a good idea if the locations of all the defibrillators was included on the town council website.
