LANCASHIRE County Council wants residents to let it know what they think about the county's roads.

The highways authority says it has made improvements to the service following feedback from last year's consultation as well as reducing the impact of its work on the environment.

Since the start of January, 2022, it has fixed almost 64,400 potholes, repaired around 1,035 faults on street lights that have caused a light to be out and made savings in carriageway resurfacing programme of 267 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to driving 1,342,048 miles in an average family car.

It has also almost completed its LED lanterns installations on streetlights, which will reduce energy consumption by more than 820,000 kWh and CO2 by 503 tonnes on the previous year - the equivalent amount of electricity used per year by 283 average households.

County Councillor Rupert Swarbrick, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "This time of year is always a good opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved and I'd like to thank the team for working so hard throughout the year in delivering an excellent service to our residents. A special thanks to those who will still be working over the festive period, maintaining our roads so that we can all travel safely to visit loved ones.

"We have listened to resident's feedback from the last survey and have improved the way we respond to localised areas of deterioration in roads.

"New systems have been introduced to provide better information to households before we undertake maintenance schemes and in asking for feedback on how well we've done.

"We are also continuing to reduce our carbon footprint across our work, including converting to LED street lighting and using new innovative low carbon materials and processes to improve road surfaces.

"We want your feedback on our service to improve even further, so if you haven't done so yet, please complete our online highways survey and let us know what you think before the end of February."

The council is asking as many people as possible to complete its online highways survey to rate the county's roads.

The national highways survey results are used to help plan and prioritise future work.
