Rector’s message: This Sunday is the Third Sunday before Lent and this week we are reminded of the parable of the labourers in the vineyard. Given the escalating industrial unrest at the present time, this parable seems timely and well chosen. However, the parable is not about earthly reward for our labour. The labourers in the vineyard complain that those who arrive late in the day receive the same pay as those who have been labouring all day. The parable points out the heavenly truth that we all rank equally before God and that our heavenly reward will be the same. However, it makes the equally important point that the first will be last and the last first. Our status in this life will be upended in the world to come. Just think how this would affect our industrial relations today if this were to be implemented while still here on earth?

Can Jack, played by Cassia Sauer, find some way to tackle the awful giant (Ted Lottey) helped, or is that hindered by his mother, Tilly Trott (Paul Smith) and win his love Jill (Claire Preston)? Evil Ernest (Peter Poulter) will do his best to thwart him, but Fairy Twinkle (Laura Lipscombe) is there to weave her magic. Jill’s mother, the Queen (Gemma Tetley) is very reluctant to do the giant’s bidding, but with those blundering fools Tik and Tok (Poppy Tetley and Barnes Cooper) she is torn between serving the giant and helping the villagers. The show features all that’s wanted in a pantomime. Great songs and dancers, a cast of thousands - well quite a few - some remarkable vegetable growth, bad jokes and even a unique dancing cow, Daisy, helped by Ellie Birch and Emily Claxton.. The pantomime is at Gargrave Village Hall on 16-18th of February at 7.15 (Thurs & Fri) and 1pm & 5pm Saturday. Tickets are £8 & £5 from The Dalesman and The Library or £9 & £6 on the door.
